In the spirit of spreading Japanese tradition, we would like to announce the holiday of setsubun 節分, February 3rd and first day of spring 立春 February 4th, 2026. For many this marks the transition from one season to the next. In order to celebrate the new season certain foods are eaten, one of these being ozenzaiおぜんざい or sweet red bean soup. This sweet treat made with adzuki beans and mochi is said to bring luck, health and vitality. Its red color also wards off evil and promotes the saying: “demons out, fortune in” 「鬼は外、福は内」. Here at 3rd Floor Brooklyn, we promote good fortune by offering our own ozenzai for good luck. Ward off evil and bring good luck with this sweet treat.
